Silica Sand

A Strategic Business Expansion at DWASAL

Dodoma Washed Sand Limited (DWASAL) is proud to announce the expansion into Silica Sand production and supply, a high-potential business line aimed at supporting Tanzania’s industrialization, green technologies, and manufacturing sectors.

What is Silica Sand?

Silica sand (SiO₂), also known as quartz sand, is a refined, high-purity sand used in various industrial processes. Unlike ordinary construction sand, silica sand has unique chemical and physical properties such as:

  • High silica content (over 95% SiO₂)
  • Consistent grain size and shape
  • Low impurity levels
Applications of Silica Sand

DWASAL will process and supply industrial-grade silica sand for a variety of high-value sectors in Tanzania and across East Africa:

Sector Silica Sand Use
Glass Manufacturing Core raw material for producing container glass, flat glass, solar panels.
Solar & Electronics Used in photovoltaic panels and semiconductors due to its high purity.
Ceramics & Tiles Enhances strength and finish in tiles, sanitaryware, and porcelain.
Foundries As molding material for casting metals.
Construction Chemicals Used in engineered concrete, grouts, and sealants.
Filtration Systems For water purification in municipal and industrial systems.
Oil & Gas As proppant sand in hydraulic fracturing (fracking), where applicable.
Our Approach

DWASAL is investing in:

  1. Specialized silica sand screening and washing equipment
  2. Chemical analysis lab for grading and quality assurance
  3. Strategic mining sites in Dodoma and surrounding regions with proven high-silica deposits.

We will ensure adherence to TBS and international standards (e.g., ISO 14688) for silica sand products. Why It Matters for Tanzania

  1. Reduces reliance on imports of industrial sand.
  2. Supports local glass, tile, and solar manufacturing initiatives under the Tanzania Industrialization Strategy 2025.
  3. Generates high-value jobs in mining, processing, logistics, and export.

Opportunities for Partnership

DWASAL welcomes:

  • Joint ventures with manufacturers and exporters
  • Research collaborations with universities
  • Support from investment funds and green industry initiatives

Product Line Expansion

DWASAL’s future product portfolio under the silica sand line will include:

  1. Raw silica sand
